Real openings and real employers, sorted by how far they are from the Pompano Beach house: walk, bike, bus, or farther out. Times are estimates. Always check the bus schedule and call before you go.
📝 How to apply
Get ready. State ID, Social Security card, a phone number and email you check. Write down 2 references.
Pick close first. A job you can walk or bike to is one you can keep. Start with the walk and bike rings.
Apply online, then follow up. Go in person 2–3 days later and ask for the manager by name.
Get free help. CareerSource Broward (and CareerSource South Florida in Miami-Dade) helps with résumés, training money and the Federal Bonding Program.
Most postings don’t list every requirement, so call and ask.
Forklift
There is no state forklift license. Federal rules say the employer must train and test you on its own equipment, so many warehouses train new hires on the job. Be wary of paid “forklift license” sites. If you want training before you’re hired, ask CareerSource about training scholarships.
Construction and warehouse employers often ask for it. The course usually costs money, but CareerSource and reentry programs sometimes offer it free. Only use an OSHA-authorized trainer.
Florida requires restaurant workers to finish state-approved food handler training within 60 days of being hired. It’s good for 3 years. The restaurant is required to provide it, so ask before you pay. SafeStaff is the state’s contracted online course (about $15).
Open jobs come straight from employers’ own hiring sites (Workday, Oracle, Amazon), government job boards (USAJobs, GovernmentJobs.com, Broward Schools, State of Florida People First) and Worxweb Solutions, and refresh daily. Pay type (Hourly, Salary, commission) is shown only when the posting states it. Jobs listed only by city show “about” distances from the city center.
Second-chance friendly means the employer has a public fair-chance commitment (for example Second Chance Business Coalition membership, Broward County’s ban-the-box law, or the federal Fair Chance Act). Tap the badge to see the source. It does not promise any one location will hire you.
No car needed means within 3 miles, or a Broward County Transit or Miami-Dade Transit stop within ¼ mile. BCT schedules · Miami-Dade Transit.
Shifts are shown only when the posting says so. Most postings don’t, so the shift filter skips jobs with an unknown shift.

The job ladder
Think of your work life as a ladder, not a single job. Nobody has to climb at the same speed.
The first job (fast food, retail, day labor). Show up on time, every shift. After 60–90 days, ask your manager to be a reference.
The step up (warehouse, stocking, hotel, maintenance). Apply while you still work Step 1. Use tuition benefits like Walmart Live Better U, Target Dream to Be and Lowe’s Track to the Trades.
Skilled or certified work (trades, forklift, CDL, healthcare tech). CareerSource Broward training scholarships can pay up to $12,000 for eligible residents.
